Management Team
Stephen Lewis, President of Medallion Capital, has been working with small businesses since 1989, starting as a strategic and operations consultant and evolving to a small business owner, and ultimately to an investor and portfolio manager. As a senior member of Medallion Capital’s management team, Steve has been involved in over 100 investments since 1998, serving as a member of the Investment Committee, underwriting and monitoring many deals. Mr. Lewis serves on Medallion Capital’s board of directors and as an observer on many of Medallion’s portfolio companies. He is a past President of the Midwest Region of the Small Business Investor Alliance (SBIA) and also served on its National Board of Governors. Mr. Lewis has a BS in Mechanical Engineering and an MS in Industrial Engineering from Ohio University. When not working on deals, Steve can often be found on his fishing boat.
Aaron Price is a Senior Vice President at Medallion Capital, where he is focused on business development, underwriting, and portfolio management. Prior to joining Medallion Capital, Aaron worked in all aspects of private equity buyout and subordinated lending for a Minnesota-based SBIC. Before that he held various roles in strategy, corporate development and operations at Turner Broadcasting and Cisco Systems (f/k/a) Scientific Atlanta. Aaron has a B.S. in finance from the University of Minnesota and an M.B.A. from Emory University. Aaron lives in suburban Minneapolis with his wife and three young children. In his spare time, he enjoys family vacations, fishing, hiking, and reading.

Nathan Krishnan is a Senior Vice President at Medallion, where he is responsible for leading investing activities, including deal origination, underwriting, structuring and portfolio management. Nathan brings extensive experience to the team, with almost two decades of private equity, private credit and M&A experience across a variety of industries. Prior to joining Medallion, Nathan served as a senior member of the Mergers & Acquisitions and Strategic Investments team at Thrivent Financial and held various investment, financial and strategy roles at Pohlad Companies (a single-family office), Best Buy, a Boston-based SBIC and Greene Holcomb & Fisher (n/k/a BMO Capital Markets). An experienced board member, Nathan has served on boards for both non-profit and for-profit companies. Nathan graduated with high distinction from Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota with a degree in finance and entrepreneurship. He lives in suburban Minneapolis with his wife and three young children and enjoys traveling, boating, and playing soccer.

Jack Johnson, Vice President, joined Medallion Capital in 2019 and focuses on evaluating new investment opportunities and monitoring portfolio companies. Prior to Medallion Capital, Jack spent several years working at Bayview Capital Group, a boutique investment bank focusing on lower middle market sell-side transactions. Jack has a B.A. in Finance and Economics from Northwestern College. Outside of work, Jack enjoys biking,skiing, traveling, and trying new restaurants.

Dean R. Pickerell, Executive Vice President, has held an executive position with this SBIC since 1986. He has extensive experience in the areas of venture capital, buyouts, private equity, and subordinated debt lending. Dean has served on the Board of Directors of several public and private companies, including non-profit organizations, and served on the NAIC trade association Board. He has a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from Iowa State University and completed course work for an MBA at Mankato State University.
Anna Drouches has served as the Controller of Medallion Capital since 2017. Prior to joining the team, she was the Controller for SBIC firm CVF Capital Partners, a Fund Accountant for venture capital firm Partech, and an Auditor for Deloitte. She is a Certified Public Accountant and received a B.S. in Accounting from St. Mary’s College of California.
Ryan Fox is an Analyst at Medallion Capital, where he is responsible for new investment due diligence, creating and presenting Deal Review documents, and tracking and reporting ongoing portfolio metrics. In his previous role at Rosenblatt Securities, a New York-based investment bank, he worked as a Senior Equity Research Associate with a focus covering public companies in the technology, media, and telecom sectors. Prior to Rosenblatt, Ryan worked at Peregrade Ventures, a Chicago-based single-family office as an Investment Associate. Ryan holds a degree in Financial Management from the University of St. Thomas. Outside of the office, Ryan enjoys reading, traveling, and cooking.
Melissa Vannelli, Investment Administrator, has more than 20 years of SBIC experience including SBA compliance and portfolio administration, investment due diligence, marketing, HR and audits. Melissa holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. Away from the office Melissa enjoys reading, traveling, and cheering on her family of hockey players.
Joe Morrisis an Associate with responsibilities including investment due diligence, portfolio monitoring, and deal review. Prior to Medallion Capital, Joe was an Associate for both Piper Sandler and UnitedHealth Group where he worked on both buy-side and sell-side transactions within the healthcare sector. Joe received his B.A. in Finance from the University of St. Thomas and his M.B.A. from the University of Minnesota - Carlson School of Management. Outside of work, Joe enjoys staying active, playing golf, reading, and traveling.
